Lincoln 2020

Good absurdist art, which Lincoln 2020 certainly is, must contain an element of contemporary plausibility to be effective. Somewhat paradoxically, we live in a time where information about anyone is readily available to everyone, yet we still largely elect leaders who we already know the most about. Heading into this play, I had been thinking about how older politicians like Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders naturally have an advantage in the name recognition game simply by virtue of being on the earth longer. I honestly did not expect to enjoy a show about Lincoln somehow being a presidential candidate in 2020. BOY, was I wrong. BOY WAS I WRONG. This show is exceptionally funny, goofy in all the right ways, manages to infuse some deep political satire and cautionary flags--all in a comedy that was so good the person next to me (who had another show scheduled and had asked me to tell him how it ended later) ended up staying to see the ENTIRE thing.
