This production, directed by Derek Long (who also provides the voice of Ro-Man, XJ2, could use a little pruning, as it is too long for the story.  The show does have its moments, such as every scene involving little Johnny (Dana DeRuyck), but could use a little more structure, especially for those of us not familiar with the movie.  ... full review

Look, if you know the stunningly bad – but oddly endearing – cult movie this is based on, then you know you are in for a goofy experience. Embracing horror movie stereotypes, playful and sweet, this is a piece of light-hearted camp that strikes the perfect tone of loving parody. Overall, I think this production could stand to pick up the pace and perhaps be shortened just a bit, but those are small concerns. The cast is the strength here, in my opinion, deftly mining the oddball material for some big laughs. (My personal favorite moment? One character dies but manages to bring one last big laugh with their changing of the set.) ... full review

What a fun, campy good time! I'm not familiar (yet) with the movie but I still had a blast! The actors give great, spirited performances and the play itself is properly ridiculous. Catchy music as well!... full review

If you're a fan of bad sci-fi films, this play will give that to you straight up without any commentary. Otherwise, this play will not be to your liking as the plot makes no sense, the romance angle creepy AF, and the musical just dragging in terms of pace.... full review

A fun nostalgia filled tribute to the B movies of old! Fun characters, catchy songs and a story that will flood you with memories from the cheese filled movies you used to watch Saturday nights with your friends. Definitely worth checking out!... full review

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of the 1953 3-D movie Robot Monster - one of the best, worst movies ever made. So when I heard that there was going to be a Fringe Festival show "Robot Monster, The Musical" I immediately bought tickets. I had no idea what the show would be like, and whether it would pay homage to or mock the original source material. Robot Monster, The Musical turns out to be a lot of fun and obviously produced by fellow fans of the original movie. It finds a balance between being faithful to the source, while providing a lot of wink-wink campiness. Most of the dialog and scene direction is taken directly from the movie script, and the songs play strongly with some of the movie's most outrageous lines. ... full review

I've never seen the movie "Robot Monster"; now I want to. I laughed loud and often at this extremely silly and extremely fun romp. A lot of really good performances from almost everyone in the cast. Although some were stronger singers than others, I'd say the majority were in good voice. And I truly feel for the poor actor in that robot-helmeted gorilla suit for the whole show!... full review
