JESSICA JILL TURNER uncertified reviewer June 16, 2017
I loved this weird, intriguing, wonderfully uncomfortable play. A play that may seem like a family drama quickly becomes so much more, exploring the complicated relationship we have with our own desires, what makes us want what we want, how we manipulate those we love and ultimately learning through loss. Shades of Neil LaBute at his best. Bombs are dropped so casually they feel both shocking and inevitable. Also, it's funny. The laughs are often of the "Wait - am I supposed to be laughing?" sort - you know, the best kind. This play will mesmerize and confound you, it will seduce and enrage you, it will capture you for 90 minutes and you will not be able to look away. Ryan Lisman is a talented writer with a unique voice and vision. I c... full review

Why tho???? I understand that moments from this play are purposefully awkward and cringe-inducing, but most of the time I found myself laughing because I had pretty much no idea what to think. The playwright could be aware of this and intentionally making his audience uncomfortable, but the writing and dialogue was not funny enough to back it up. It was corny as hell. ... full review

I consider this one of the Fringier plays, as it explores controversial secrets with sensitivity and wit. There were two scenes that took me completely by surprise and I love unpredictability! It's a wonderfully quirky play that remains compelling throughout the full 90 minutes. For me, a big part of its success lies with the talented actor playing the complex Colin. A sensitive, soulful performance that draws you in and anchors the story.... full review

Apathy Killed the Cat is a one-act play written and directed by Ryan Lisman and premiering at the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival. The play centers around an unstable playwright named Colin (Aaron Stall). Colin is slowly losing his grip on what little control he has over his life as his mom is lying catatonic in the hospital and his treasured cat Rosebud is on her last life. While he has a loving and devoted girlfriend Lily (Autumn Bruewer), he is tortured by a secret sexual desire that no one, himself included, can understand.... full review

This was an ambitious, wildly surreal show that certainly doesn't go where you expect it to. Ryan Lisman definitely swings for the fences with this play and it's an encouraging effort.... full review

Looking for some challenging adult content at this year’s Fringe? This might be the show for you. Exploring the world of a stressed out playwright named Colin, he finds that things can go from stressful to borderline suicidal rather quickly. Weirdly balancing fantasy, comedy, heavy drama and some truly awkward family dynamics along the way, this piece is a call for people to simply respect one another and try to understand each other without irrational judgement. The is one of the most positive shows I have seen so far at Fringe, even if that positive message is hidden amongst some very dark ideas. (It should be noted this show contains some very adult conversations and nudity.)... full review
