Last night I was treated to a night in the theatre. A friend took me to see The Owl and The Pussycat at the Dorie. The play opened with an immediate explosion introducing us to Felix and Doris. Two fleshed out wholesome characters were formed by the intimate and truthful chemistry between Marlies Bauer Bell and Zach Fouché. They made the stage their home, they emanated power and a sense of real love that cannot be found today. I was so impressed with the clarity and conviction they owned. This is a performance that pushes home the fact that phenomenal transcending theatre is alive and well. I was touched from the first word....

Zach and Marlies were high caliber actors which I will not hesitate to see again. Marlies was dynamic, witty and very sensual and funny. Zach was perfect, impersonating someone who was not comfortable with himself and at the same time, looking for companionship. These two young actors have a lot to look for in the future. Congratulations on showcasing this play at your theater....

There seem to be more 'legit' plays at Fringe this year, which is great. This was a great production. Both actors had obviously worked very hard in rehearsals, and it paid off..Marlies Bauer Bell captivated from the moment she entered until curtain call.
Zach Fouche had a very difficult and complex character to live in.I felt he struggled a bit in the first scene, but grew into a powerful performance thereafter.
Highly recommend this exceptionally well directed play...

“The Owl and the Pussycat” was written by Bill Manhoff and opened on Broadway in 1964. It was made into a film in 1970 starring Barbra Streisand and George Segal. As a single-set full-length two-hander it has been produced widely. Manhoff did not write any further plays as he soon moved into the more lucrative world of TV and Film.
An unpublished writer (Felix) sees some suspicious activity in a neighboring San Francisco apartment and reports it to the landlord. The girl he reported (Doris) is evicted for prostitution and pounds on Felix’s door seeking an explanation. Felix maybe feels guilty that he is the reason for her homelessness, it turns out that she is not a career prostitute, just an actress and model between jobs...
