The Toxic Avenger is one of Troma's great films. This particular musical is one that's already been traipsing around before coming to Fringe, so it has the advantage of having been tested and tried in previous scenarios. But that also means that Fringe audiences should expect better because of that--and in this case, they will NOT be disappointed, because this show is fantastic. Really, truly fantastic. From the first number which truly set the tone--including how much profanity, what the level of humor and what the level of violence and special effects were going to be--the show was off and running. And it never stopped. The casting is great. Strong, smart choices. Great leads. Perfect back ups. Dynamic voices. Nailed harmonies. Dir... full review

Generally strong performances buoy but can't really save this sort-of-amusing show that aims for the irreverence of Urinetown but is rarely that clever. Wesley Tunison and Danny Fetter have fun in multiple roles, Jared Reed distinguishes well between nerdy Melvin and his hero alter ego, and Kim Dalton displays sharp comic timing plus pulls off the neat trick of believably playing blind. Even the stage crew gets some laughs. But the book is more silly-dumb than silly-funny, the score is mediocre, and it does wear on. Excellent costumes. I saw show 1, so I assume sound issues will be fixed and pacing will tighten up.... full review

Cute, clever, funny, and campy musical by an energetic and talented cast. Inspiration seen from URINETOWN and ROCKY HORROR and many other musicals (even a PHANTOM cameo). Relax and enjoy the fun story performed fiercely by a good cast with great songs!... full review

I knew nothing about this movie/musical before tonight. And yet, the whole way home I could not stop quoting and singing through all of my favorite parts. Every single member of this cast, crew, orchestra, and team as a whole have created something truly memorable and I cannot wait to see it again! A definite "must see"!!... full review

Watch out for Kim Dalton and Jared Reed - they have real star power! Shirley Anne Hatton was a powerhouse too, and the two supporting guys were mostly excellent. Too often their valiant efforts were undercut by a so-so script and unnecessary songs, much less the constant buzzing of the sound system and the bored onstage musicians. Worth seeing - but the producers need to get their act together and be able to give their great performers the support they deserve.... full review
