No Traveler: A Comedy About Suicide

yeah... I gotta say... you really oughtta see this show. penny is a physical comedian, a clown of sorts, but she is also a writer and a beautiful performer and creates a world and has fun in it like you wouldn't believe. Comfortable in this show, she is able to enter the worlds with a joy and a freedom but yes, a precision (penny, how the hell do you fall in the bucket like that?), you know what, i'm going to shut up now. just get your ticket. you're in exceptional hands.... full review

To be honest, I probably couldn't say enough about Penny and her show, but I'll do my best. No only did Penny's show have a lot of heart and comedy, but the direction of this show was incredible. Penny's movements and shifts from character to character were so well done, that it was obvious that her and Pearlman were more than on the same page. The amount of storytelling Penny was able to do with such a simple set design and look was truly amazing. I would highly recommend this show to everyone this year!... full review

Pollak integrates music and dance to create a netherworld inhabited by desperate souls in search of redemption. With her expressive face and acrobatic abilities, she literally throws herself into her work, mining the dark subject matter for insight and comic gold, no matter how bitter the taste.... full review

The performance tonight was spectacular, in the wonderful highs and not really lows, but emotional depths that the artist Penny brings to this show. Her wonderful array of extremely well thought out characters, subject matter, and healthy doses of humor go a long way for this fringer that had an amazing time watching this show. Brilliant! Where to even begin --- just WOW! Pollak is a true artist, using her entire body to transform from character to character like pure comedic poetry. I haven't seen this show. I saw an excerpt at this evening's Pick of the Fringe... Woah. Penny is a daring and extraordinary actor.. She glides across the tight-rope separating comedy from tragedy with a felicity that belies the effort and skill it requires to not fall off. “NO TRAVELER” (Platinum Medal) Written and flawlessly performed by Penny Pollak, with Lindsey Hope Pearlman directing “No Traveler” reveals itself part dance, part psychodrama, part vaudeville, part morality play and all diamond. I doubt that any tale of pain and despair has ever seen a wittier staging or suicide viewed in such a frisky light. Pollak portrays Abigail, an angst driven party girl who dances (literally) herself into an act of self destruction. She awakens to find herself in a tub, and the tub in purgatory. There she is given another chance at salvation if she can prevent another despairing soul from following the path she chose. But as good as Abigail was at screwing up her life, she’s even better at... full review

One of the best one person shows that I have seen in the fringe! Unique, and very well written...... No traveler takes us on an amazing journey through many suicides.... And Penny is a brilliant actress and does a great job with navigating through all the different characters..... Ok, let's get the elephant out of the room. Yes, this play is about suicide. And, yes, it's funny. Very funny. If there is no way for you to not be deeply offended by this I won't try to talk you into seeing the show. But for everyone else... This piece is very well done. Penny Pollak slips into and out of the 1/2 dozen or so characters she portrays in this one-person show, effortlessly. Granted, the technical support (lights, sound, and prop design) support her quite well in this, but that only adds to the overall quality of the presentation and takes nothing away from her performance.
