Booze, Balls and Bluegrass: A Daughter's Journey

solo performance · written and performed by laura carson · Ages 15+ · United States of America

one person show world premiere

In 2009, Laura moved back to Atlanta, GA to care for her ailing 77-year-old father. She suddenly found herself balls-deep in a caregiving scenario trying to manage a demanding dad slipping into dementia while she drank in the dark talking to her cat. It’s a funny, moving story about loving the people who break your heart, letting go and growing up. And you’ll hear some great Bluegrass music to boot!

“Laura paints a motion picture of images and sounds (the sound design is brilliant by the way) alternately hilarious and heartbreaking, sometimes at the same time.”

“Ms. Carson channels the mature, late-70s Carol Burnett at times…”

“a wholly original and captivating work by a confident performer who understands how to entertain, and how to make an audience smile as well as weep”

“A simple and beautiful evening of theater.”

“Her journey from grief and loss and onto stage is courageous and very inspiring”

“Quite moving while managing to be funny and insightful at the same time about a topic that all of us either are facing or probably will face at some point.”

“a lovely show by a talented, comfortable actress with true chops!”

“well staged and beautifully performed. … not to be missed.”
