My overall impression
Full of personal truths and perspectives of a dozen characters, all played with the love they require, The Mermaid Who Learned How to Fly has just enough magic to intrigue without suggesting that this is anything but our world. Kyla Garcia’s performance is extraordinary. Her character-work builds a vibrant and layered world. Their relationships are relatable and touching, and the dialogue is humorous when it needs to be.
