If you ever dreamed or hoped at any time of you life, this one-woman performance would make you want to relive those hopes and dreams and turn them into your life!!! A great performance that makes you laugh and cry and appreciate the little things in life. Kyla is truly one gifted actress showcased in a very heart-warming story. A show that I would want to see over and over again and invite as many dreamers as possible. This mermaid has learned how to fly!... full review

There is one performance that no amount of technique or RADA courses can really help with, and that’s the performance of one’s self. You can meet someone for the first time, hear them introduce themselves as an “actor” and know immediately – no. They lack what dancers call “pop”. There’s no art, no style, no….”pop” about them. How can you assume that anyone would care to see your “production”, when the grand performance of who you are is flatter than a slow hedgehog on a busy freeway? The artist performs whether on a stage or before a bathroom mirror brushing their pearly whites; the artist’s breathes passion on their every breath. Every moment in their presence is a concert, a recital, time in their company doesn’t simply pass it par... full review

Kyla's show is absolutely brilliant. She's crafted beautiful, funny, flawed, charming, human characters in her story about choosing between two lovers. It is heartbreaking and profound and some of the most fun I've ever had at the theatre.... full review

Kyla Garcia is a masterful performer who exercises an incredible range in ability to create and channel distinct, fully complete, and endearing characters that come to life in this must see show about coming of age, love, and the journey of following one's own path in life. Kyla incorporates the very best elements of Solo Performance in a show that Is entertaining, heartfelt, thought provoking, and personal. Kyla skillfully brings us into the world of her protagonist with the flick of a wrist and never lets us go, or more appropriately, we, the audience, refuse to leave our seats, even after the show is over. Reward yourself by seeing this show. Bring a friend, someone you love, or anyone interested in seeing how this beautiful mermaid learn... full review

Kyla Garcia is a wonderful mixture of talent, beauty, grace, and precision. Her abilities seem endless in the stellar performance of Mermaid. Weaving seamlessly in and out of scenes, characters, and poetry, she captures the audiences attention from her first appearance on stage, and doesn't let us go until the story is over. And when she does let us go, it's bittersweet because we have fallen in love and are ready for more. Even more impressive is that she also wrote the play, which has a lovely arc, with bold characters and a fairy narrator that is incredibly charming. ... full review

Having seen my share of black box theatre in LA, I was *blown away* by Kyla Garcia's "The Mermaid Who Learned How to Fly". Incredibly heartfelt and injected with truth, vulnerability, and humor; presented by such a vastly talented performer as Garcia who portrayed starkly diverse and humorous characters, it was a show that stayed with me after the lights came back up. ... full review

This was pretty stunning stuff. I loved it. The mashing of conflicting styles was particualarly effective. Mainly, telling a very mature, personal & adult story in the genre of an old fashioned fairytale. An audience participation pantomime, It made the darker elements even more upsetting. Smart. The performance was flawless. Kyla Garcia is incredibly powerful. Beautiful, vulnerable, strong, sexy, funny as hell and a little terrifying! And her vocal and physical work is to be studied and copied. A star performer. Go see. Please.... full review

Kyla Garcia portrays dozens of characters in her amazing one-woman show. Besides her ability to totally transform herself moment to moment, sometimes presenting conversations with three people at once with each defined through both body and spirit, Kyla is also brilliant modern dancer and created scene breaks with soulful dance movement accompanied by voice over describing the scene. I was totally captivated throughout the hour long show. IT is a shame there are only a few chances to catch this piece during Fringe. Don't miss it. We all need to be reminded that only we can let go and fly towards our own dreams.... full review
