Masterfully written by David Castro and simplistic yet highly specific direction by Dennis Neal, guide Tim Powell's performance through this challenging and difficult subject matter with excellent comedic timing, smooth transitions, and genuine voice characterization. Tim Powell NAILS all nine of his characters! Janie Michele Simms gives a heartfelt performance. A MUST see!!! ... full review

Man’s Dominion by David Castro. Review by Pauline Adamek. ***This review first appeared on www.StageRaw.com *** A TV writer/producer for most of his lengthy career, David Castro has now tried his hand at playwriting, and the resulting one-person play, Man’s Dominion, is not as emotionally gripping as one might expect from the subject matter. Castro was seized by the tragic turn-of-the-century tale of a circus elephant’s lynching. In a small Tennessee town in 1916, an Indian elephant named Mary lashed out at an inexperienced and brutal trainer, stamping on his head. For this murderous act, the beast was hanged. The playwright adopts the typical, no-frills approach of having a sole actor inhabit a virtually bare stage and adopt numerous... full review

Man's Dominion asks us to reflect on the staggering question of liberty, and what it means to "have a right". Expertly written and unapologetic, it is easy to see why alert audience members may find themselves derailed of sturdy opinions, as we are guided through the perspective of many characters fixated on deciphering their own answer to the question. The lynching of an elephant may seem grandiose and impersonal to us at first, but the heart of this play is relevant and mind-bending. The lingering effects of the power of choice and results of action resound through ourselves are we are left sympathetic and dually horrified at the many faces of humanity.... full review

Man’s Dominion brings up the very question of, who are the real animals us or them? A very poignant non-fiction, it is an absolute must see for the content, the direction and the delivery. Read the full review here: http://giaonthemove.com/2014/06/15/fringe-up-mans-dominion/... full review

Man's Dominion is without a doubt one of the CAN'T MISS shows this year at the Hollywood Fringe. I went to see it this Sunday evening and was absolutely blown away. Tim Powell effortlessly inhabits character after character and does so with such ease, commitment, grace, and seamlessness that I sat in wonder at the depth of his ability to transmit the experience of each individual character to the audience. By the end I was brought to tears as he became what would be his last two characters. A true tour de force! David Castro's writing is as sharp as a tack. At times brilliantly comedic and in the next moment devastating. The depth of observation and imagination in his script is almost unbelievable, but I saw it and heard it and felt it... full review
