What I liked

Virginia Novello is a force. Not only she was excellently cast for this role: she exudes sensuality and even looks like Nahui Olin, she is also so captivating, and charismatic, strong yet vulnerable in her performance. She truly commands the stage and is fearless in her portrayal of a woman who lived life at it’s fullest.

The writing was so sharp. In one hour it managed to take us through this woman’s very fascinating life, and also get us into her inner life. I was fascinated by the history, but also truly moved by some of the emotional moments.

I loved seeing a cosmopolitan, artistic, empowered Mexican character.

The directing choices were so strong. The way the director played with the space, lighting, projections, etc to give us distinct spaces was very visually exciting. I never felt bored.

My overall impression

I am Nahui Olin is a deeply sensual portrayal of a woman bursting at the seams with passion and creative energy who was too large for the patriarchal society and repressive time in which she was born. Virginia Novello gives a masterful performance and completely embodies the character with sensuality, vulnerability and power.
