Oftentimes at Fringe I see musicals written by folks who don't really know how to do it. This is NOT one of those shows. Jimi Darkness is the textbook definition of a rock musical in the best way, adapting Byous' concept album for the stage with tunes that won't leave your head for days. This is one Fringe show you CANNOT miss this year! I’m still not over it. Such a beautiful show written by James Byous and delivered with such a perfect mix of rock and roll and utter vulnerability. The cast is filled with some of the best singers in the city and the songs are outrageously good. A musical about addiction done in a completely fresh and original way that had me in tears by the end. This show was amazing. I was expecting it to be great, but wow. It deserves full houses and to be experienced. The cast is so talented. Coming from a theatrical background, I appreciated all that went into the music, the staging, the writing, and the whole experience to make it unique and riveting. I really wish I had the opportunity to see it again. This is what art is supposed to be. James Byous gives a fantastic performance that is raw in a beautiful way. It is deeply moving, naturally funny, and the singing and songs are just so F-ing badass. See the show, buy the album, follow for more is my recommendation.
