A Hot Flash Gospel: My Unconfirmed RSVP grew out of LadyK’s own journey through perimenopause, where brain fog, hot flashes, mood swings, and hormonal chaos collided with creativity and self-discovery.
What began as a series of personal poems slowly evolved into a full-length one-woman poetry play that blends storytelling, humor, and raw vulnerability.
Through a mix of spoken word, reflection, and unapologetic honesty, LadyK invites audiences into the often unspoken realities of midlife transformation. With equal parts laughter and truth-telling, the show explores what it means to navigate a body that suddenly feels unfamiliar, a mind that moves differently, and a society that rarely prepares women…especially Black women for this chapter of life.
At its heart, A Hot Flash Gospel is both testimony and reclamation. It examines the intersection of aging, identity, health, and self-worth while celebrating the resilience required to keep showing up fully in a body that is constantly changing. LadyK moves seamlessly between comedic moments of recognition and deeply reflective passages that honor the complexity of womanhood.
What emerges is a powerful, intimate performance that feels less like a traditional play and more like a conversation… one where audiences are invited to laugh, reflect, and recognize themselves in the messy, honest beauty of becoming.
