An apt and sometimes frightening portrayal of how we've invited technology to play a leading role in our lives. Clever, yes, but also cautionary. The request to live-tweet, vine or post about the show (during the show) only helped to reinforce our generations' addiction. Loved the choice to have actors onstage sullenly lost in their phones when not part of the central action. Solid cast with a particularly adept performance from Nathan Turner as the agent you-love-to-hate. Interesting direction and writing, making this one definitely worth the watch. ... full review

Have you ever seen a show that perfectly captures the ridiculous current #trends with aplomb? I have. It is called #hashtag. The cast aptly delivers the humor of this satire without being sarcastic. The play openly encourages electronic devices and wants you to tweet pictures or take Vine vids of the performance. I had too much fun. Parts of it dragged a bit, but the phenomenal cast overpowered the moments of lag with their tour de force performances. #lovedit.... full review

Really enjoyed the this play, found myself missing some of the characters by the time I got home. I also really enjoyed the ability to interact with the characters over social media during the performance. I want more!! ... full review

Loved the acting and the writing, this was a very well written play with a great look at how society as a whole is now. The opening song was awesome. Great cast especially the guy who worked at the "Hollywood video." I would suggest this play to anyone who likes to laugh out loud!... full review

Laughed out loud to the point of crying. All the actors were marvelous - especially loved Kit and his agent. So many real moments that resonated. Although allowed to tweet during the performance, was actually too involved to do so. Thank you Mechanical Heart Theatre Company for a great time.... full review

Hastag is brilliantly acted and staged. Some of the best performances in the whole festival. That being said I hope my friends still like me after this next bit. It doesn't live up to it's thesis. That being social media is causing us to actually become less connected. At best social media is an ancillary part of the story of a young man who moves to LA, becomes a jerk, and only then gets work as an actor. The story is very light leaving the heavy lifting to the (albeit brilliant) performances and staging. It is similar to the work of Culture Clash in that it is performer driven and might not translate well to a new cast. Which is sad because it's a good idea that deserves to be explored and a show that deserves to be seen. All th... full review

#Hashtag is what I wish all theater would be: relevant, interactive, theatrical, of-the-moment, funny, and touching. High-caliber acting and brilliant storytelling. Plus, seamlessly directed. It really excited me to see this piece yesterday and I couldn't stop talking about it afterwards. Tickets should have been three times as much! Can't wait to see what's next from this company.... full review

“#Hashtag” begins with a pre-curtain announcement that the audience should not turn off their phones, encouraging us to “live tweet” the characters on stage. I activated Instagram to take a picture to post to Facebook and Twitter, but I didn’t get a response from the characters on stage. “#Hashtag” tells the story of Kit, played by Spencer Howard, a present day 20-something Los Angelino suffering from the angst of self-centeredness. He places his dream of becoming an actor before his relationships. By the play’s end he has lost his girlfriend, turned his back on his brother and neglected the one friend who seems to really care about him, but he does land a role in a pilot. It’s a classic story of a hero’s tragic flaw bringing about his ow... full review

#Hashtag is a fun and enjoyable piece of theatre that is more about moving to LA and adjusting to it's hectic lifestyle than it is about social media. The cast is enjoyable, but they never really stop being themselves, which make for only average performances, and a lot of times they feel a bit underused. The script, co-written by the cast is great for a fringe festival type setting, but if this piece were extended into a full run, it might need some more work - like I said, I'd love to see the ensemble fully used. Props to the entire team for creating an enjoyable, lighthearted evening of theatre. ... full review
