There is so much heart in this show. Laural is in complete command on stage and the audience is loving every minute, laughing and crying and doing the shimmy! You get the history of Sophie Tucker and the era, lovingly rendered, but you also get so much of Laural herself. Through Ms. Tuckers life and her own, Laural explores themes of loneliness, the search for love, making your own way and finding meaning. A must-see at this year's festival....

A century-old (and more) Vaudeville headliner, forgotten in the wake of her successors ("formidable" femmes like MAE WEST and KATE SMITH, who go unmentioned) gets resurrected by an Academic who's moonlighting as a Vaudeville SuperStar---and makes it work 110%! (Rumor has it that this 75-minutes was "out-of-town" at the Gardenia Club for a year, and it shows in the pro patina with which it's performed by LAUREL MEADE and her pianist, FRED CASSIDY.) I was enthralled... not only by Laurel's rendition of Sophie Tucker, but by her beautiful voice and the truth she revealed to us about her own life. My Husband loved it too. Today was our 21st wedding anniversary and there's nothing we would rather have done than watch, laugh and be inspired by a Red Hot Mama!...
