nursing is my life

I never really paid much attention to what nurses go through, even though I know several people close to me who are in the field. Honestly, I just assumed they were getting paid well and left it at that. This show really opened my eyes to how tough the job is. Charley portrayed it with so much honesty and heart. It was very moving. The performance felt very personal and sweet, with natural acting, simple dance, and heartfelt singing. The storytelling was well-structured and convincing, and the live keyboard accompaniment by her son on stage added an extra layer of warmth and intimacy. It wasn’t a spectacle, but it didn’t need to be. I truly enjoyed it and left with a new appreciation for nurses and everything they go through. ... full review

I saw the description for this show in the Fringe book and was intrigued! I did not know Charley personally, but was fascinated by the subject matter. I think she did a great job in portraying her life as a nurse, both on the job, as well as her life outside the job. I appreciated the facts and behind-the-scenes moments, too — like how high burnout is among nurses and how the struggle is real to find a job, even as a nurse (which seems like a profession that would always need people). Her song parodies were clever, too, and I’m glad she’s finally on stage like she’s always wanted. :) Like someone else said, this show should be required viewing for everyone, those both in and out of the healthcare system. It was entertaining, yet educational ... full review

I was surprised how much I learned about the nursing career and difficulties in our health care system. This show is entertaining and enlightening. The plight of women over the past six decades mirrors the treatment of nurses which had been a woman's job until somewhat recently.... full review

I just went to my friend, Charley Karlotta’s one woman show at the Hollywood Fringe last Friday night. She was Amazing along side her son, Andy who was her musical director and accompanied her on the piano! She tells her nursing experience through heartfelt stories and you will fall in love with her the minute she starts to sing her creative song parodies! Charley is simply Adorable! This show is a, MUST SEE!!! Please go and support her and see her last show, on Sunday, June 22, at Hollywood Fringe at 6PM. ... full review
