This show is one of my favorite shows. I have seen at the Hollywood fringe this year! There was truly nothing like this at the festival and I so appreciate the cross cultural performance.I was so moved by the vulnerability, the high stakes, and boldness of both the script and the performances. While I do not speak Korean, and there were subtitles, I could feel the desperation, the emotion, And the turmoil that was going on in these actresses on stage. I really loved seeing the contrast of conflict within both of the women, seeing both sides of the story so clearly articulated. I also didn’t know much about this part of history and I’m so glad I know now. I was moved to unexpected tears by the end of this production. I was overtaken with emot...

Powerful, elegant, timely – all authoritarian regimes eventually pass and one must live with the choices one makes under them. Perfect performances, excellent musical accompaniment, lovely staging - a total win....

An urgent warning of how history always repeats. Conquering nations occupying places they deem as less. The past talking to the present, hoping for a better future. The artists are responding and I feel a little better about the world....

Masterpiece
A brilliant triumph of writing, directing, and performance — To Be Liberated is a theater experience that proves how the deepest stories can be told with the simplest tools when guided by true artistry.
The script is masterfully written — weaving personal pain and historical weight into an intimate, human story. The dialogue is sharp yet poetic, giving voice to the unspoken guilt, hope, and longing carried by those who lived through Korea’s liberation from Japanese occupation. The writer deserves the highest praise for crafting a narrative that resonates far beyond the stage.
The direction is equally superb. Every movement, every pause, and every silence on the small stage feels purposeful and charged with meaning. The pacing is precis...

To Be Liberated quietly but powerfully moved my heart. It wasn’t loud or dramatic, but every word and silence carried weight. It made me reflect deeply on what true freedom means, not just politically, but spiritually. I walked away reminded of the Gospel… that real liberation comes through grace, forgiveness, and healing....
