One Up: The Musical

One Up the Musical is a laugh-out-loud, theatrical joyride. Created and produced by the immensely talented Mary Bonney and Weslie Lechner — this show is a living, breathing example of what happens when heart meets hustle. The direction, pacing, and comedic timing were all dialed in, with every transition seamless and the production value was next level. The entire cast know exactly how to hold a room, and every character embodied both sharp and delightfully absurd in the best way. And let’s talk about Eric Olsen. One Up was so much fun! The music was catchy enough that I desperately want to listen to it again on Spotify/iTunes/wherever music is streaming! The costumes and choreography were on point. The story was a bit simple, but that worked beautifully for an hour-long musical. I'm not even a gamer but I followed along just fine. My partner, a software engineer, got very stressed when they discussed coding and deadlines, which just speaks to how well they nailed the authenticity. I absolutely loved One Up: The Musical! And you could tell everyone in the audience did too as there were constant laughs throughout the show. A musical about women working in the video game industry in the 80's wasn't something I knew I needed in my life... but boy was it! Everyone needs to see this musical. The show was so fun and had so much humor. while also hitting on some real issues with the video game world, especially in its early days. The cast was so fun and had great synergy.
