My overall impression

Another reviewer compared this show to a bite sized candy bar, and I am having trouble thinking of a better metaphor. In fact, I’ll take the metaphor further, because a fringe festival is kind of like going Trick-or-Treating on Halloween. You go door to door, not sure what to expect, hoping for something surprising and delightful. “The Real Housekeepers of Studio City” is just that. The show is like a fun size bag of Skittles: filled with colorful morsels, each one more pleasing than the last. It’s a “fun size” bag because the writing and the production is so economic and clean. The last housekeeper to parade on the stage was probably my favorite. Her quietly heartfelt number, “The Syndication of Your Mind,” was like finding a golden ticket, folded up and hidden underneath the Skittles. And what could be more unexpected and delightful than that?
