What I liked

These personal, hard-hitting true stories are simply told in the best way possible by a writer/storyteller who is grounded in observational humor, and who allows the situations to speak for themselves—even while acknowledging what is f*cked up. Born to the Chinese sign of the Tiger, the journey of perspective from wise young man to wiser adult man is one I will never forget.

What I didn't like

I would only hope that Dee continues to develop this beautiful memory play. The quiet volume of a little dialogue was difficult to hear in a few places when voices became soft, yet I was still able to follow the story.

My overall impression

Recommend! A playwright commands our focus through poignant scenes from his past that convey American life through the lens of what it is to be “othered” even by his closest friends because of his mixed race appearance. The series of memories from Pennsylvania, New York and Los Angeles are reenacted by actors and punctuated by first person straight talk examining who decides what it is like to be an American.
