I love coming of age stories with a very identifiable lead. I felt that in Andy. The chemistry between Andy and her sibling was off the charts and there were some really beautiful moments scattered throughout the show. A shout out to the director as well. Really strong work.
What I didn't like
It felt like they were packing in a lot in 90 minutes and not focusing enough on what the prime issues were because they got a little confusing. I think it could have been an hour long. I understanding wanting to cover a lot of what we go through as adolescents, but I think it might have been stronger to focus on one or two things mostly through out. There was periods, body changing, panic attacks, suicide, an insecure alcoholic mother, a potentially abusive mother, sexual and gender identification struggles, hair, friendships changing, relationships changing, crushes… and while all those things are a lot when you’re going through them – as an audience member it was hard to stay focused at times.
My overall impression
Relatable, touching, charming and really strong performances across the board.
