The sensory and interactive elements were charming and inventive; Sam has a great way of bringing the audience in without it being confrontational or stressful. An ADHD dream honestly. She’s so good at giving “homework for the rest of your life” by pointing out the work of rethinking that needs doing. I loved having the chance to sing and clap along and hear some Cherokee spoken.
What I didn't like
There are so many rich pockets in the story that I wanted to know more about—the grandmas, the mission trip itself, the other people in the West Virginia town, even the school classroom that had been knocked over. I’d love to see a full cast and staged version of Sam’s storytelling, as wonderful as it is to spend time with her in a solo show.
My overall impression
Warm and thoughtful, as you’d expect from Samantha Bowling! Don’t miss it.
