This show is a tour de force. The performance, the stories, the staging. I was utterly captivated the entire time. Byron's a powerhouse on stage, seamlessly transforming into unforgettable characters, owning the stage, and revealing himself to us through a special blend of humor and heartbreak. Do not miss this show....

A fast-paced, hilarious and affecting solo show featuring a performer with astonishing talent. Byron Coolie is a force, with an incredible physicality that punctuates both the funniest scenes, and the most tragic. I wouldn't call what Byron does as "effortless"; he obviously puts so much of himself in this performance. The truth of the story is effortless, and it flows out of him with no obstacles....

This is one of the best things I've ever seen. Byron is truly a once in a lifetime talent. He jumps effortlessly between stand up (both dying and killing at the mic in turns) and other more theatrical scenes. His dancing is so impressive and it jumps up and bites you out of nowhere. It's hilarious and tragic. A view on what it's like to be a person of color at a white regional theatre that will hopefully startle those well-meaning liberals out of their unhelpful complacency (5th period english word). A story about what it's like to be black and deal with the police takes a turn that feels both unexpected and very expected. I honestly am so impressed with all the topics this piece so effortlessly wove together, and Byron himself seems effortl...

The show was phenomenal! The storytelling was so personal, engaging and laugh-out-loud. It was so funny and. Full-bodied. The characters were unique and had such specific point of views. The stand-up comedy was so funny too. As an audience, we were rolling laughing.
I was truly amazed at the precision of his comedy. Timing, pacing and his clown work were all top tier. And Sidney’s direction was expert. Her depiction of the peaks and valleys of each moment in his life was pitch-perfect. Their collaboration was elite. Dream team....

I can’t say enough great things about this show! Co-written by Sidney Edwards and Byron Coolie, this one-man show starring Coolie is truly delightful from beginning to end- no album skips necessary. The way Byron so effortlessly flows between the hilarious characters of his story makes you forget, if even for a second, that he’s the only person on stage. From the meticulously placed props and costumes, to the use of projections and voiceovers, this theatrical masterpiece proves that you can do ALOT with a little. The show’s writing & acting styles demonstrate the ability to not only take something already funny and make it funnier, but also to pull out the gut wrenching emotions that come with the Black, male experience. Just when they’ve di...

This show is not only hilarious, but at times profound, and this contrast really works. Keeping me on the edge of my seat, moments in this show gave me goosebumps, and the emotions ran deep. A cathartic experience at its finest, Tyt 5 gets a 5 (out of 5)....
