I really thought we had some most clever writing!! Veronica Carey Matthews HAS A WAYWITHWORDS – let it be known! Let’s hear it for all the passive vampires out there! Long may they thrive!
There are some real powerhouse performers on that stage – Lisa K. Wyatt and Sammi Lappin are utter jewels! But I couldn’t take my eyes off of Cherise Pascual!! Bravo to all involved!!
What I didn't like
Things seemed a bit tight on this stage and I’m wondering if a larger space would serve the show better. As the tunes are catchy and rhythmically inclined, more choreography might enhance several numbers. Also, I think more appearances by the mysterious presence/Svengali are necessary to up the stakes and fear factor. The more obstacles thrown out the heroine, the better!
My overall impression
I love coming into a show, not knowing any of the creative forces behind it or what the show is about, and being genuinely INSPIRED by the messaging, humor, and fringe appeal! The Transpiring is not short on infectious lyrics presented in a hip-hop style! It’s rather AWESOME watching these characters go all-out in storytelling! Some moments are so genuine (between newfound siblings), some are pure warmth (between coworkers/dear friends), and some are awkward turn loving (between parent and child), there is just no shortage of emotions in this musical!
