A fun hip hop story about reconnecting with your past with your current identity and the challenges of trying to catch up but also reliving traumas. It was a wonderful evening full of fun music and song that I walked out of with a big grin on my face!... full review

I love a show that knows its making fun of itself and brings the audience in for a fun ride that begins at an adoption clinic and climaxes at Svengali's dark underground lair! This is a coming out story told like no other through head bopping hip hop beats and rhymes (effortlessly delivered by the cast) that cut through the most awkward and tension filled moments of the plot. Each character had their moments to shine in the dialogue's quirky humor. Setting the levity aside, one of the more poignant moments was between Vanessa (Matthews) and new found sister Irene (Lappin) who is questioning her own identity and asks Vanessa for advice. As the show ends with the understanding that "family is family" I was left wondering with the following ... full review

What meets the eye as a fun, hip hop, fantastical musical is much more with deeper notes of a story about people wanting be accepting for who they are, no matter how many asterisks gets attached. As transgender woman myself, the storyline with the younger sister was particularly touching and left me wishing I had a sibling that - giving me a good reminder how much a story can impact someone else. ... full review

The Transpiring makes for a killer evening! A fun twist on a coming out story. The hip-hop was really fun and kept the story moving with a good rhythm. Spencer Frankeberger did a great job bringing joy to the theatre making this show is pure fun. Veronica Carey Matthews brought her heart to this and it shows. Through all the fun, the puns, blood, rhymes, gags, and Harry Potter there is a powerful heartfelt story that everyone can enjoy. ... full review

Such an amazing show to watch! The Transpiring takes a very heavy topic, and makes it light, campy, and fun. It's very rare that you can find a show that makes you laugh, think, and feel, all at the same time. This entire cast does it in superb fashion. From start to finish, there isn't one dull moment in this production -- and a brilliant production it is! You can tell that a lot of work went into this piece, and it definitely paid off. Outstanding!... full review

What I love most about the HFF is the opportunity it provides for artists to create and try out new works. Like the characters in the play, Transpiring is in the process of figuring out who it is and how to say it. And I love getting to be along for the ride as Veronica and company find the core message. Wonderful energy / tight ensemble /clever script and libretto. I look forward to traveling with them as this show continues to develop. ... full review
