Reilly takes us on a truly magical journey. His bedraggled author is both obsessive but also sympathetic as you can see how much he truly cares about the subject matter. Unexpectedly darkly funny moments had me bent over laughing while a very poignant ending silenced the crowd.

My overall impression
Lessons From Children’s Books is a valuable lesson in judging books by their covers. Darkly funny, sweet, and heartbreaking, Phillip Reilly does a superb job of putting us back in a school assembly. His descent into these stories is wondorous, not to be missed.
