What I liked

I liked the seeking, the messiness, the unearthing in real-time. Chris’ charisma pulled me in from the opening moment and grounded me in his world. I appreciated the discoveries along the way that made it feel like we were all experiencing this journey for the first time. My favorite moment may have been when Chris didn’t use the mic to tell his father what he’s wanted to tell him for so long. It was such a private moment that resonated deeply even with my limited understanding of Spanish, deftly encapsulating the show’s title.

What I didn't like

It’s hard to say. With the unscripted nature of the show, there’s room for new discoveries in each performance. I appreciated the incidental moments that added to “be here now” effect of the show.

My overall impression

This show cracked my heart wide open. Christopher Moncayo-Torres is a gifted storyteller, seamlessly weaving together humor, heart, and vulnerability. It’s an honor to watch Chris share the stage with his father while seeking clarity within seeming chaos. There’s a universality here that echoes true. I felt like I could sit by the fireside and listen to Chris tell stories all day long.
