Habla y te Salvas: Stories of a No Sabo Kid & his Guayaco Dad is nothing short of being one of the most original and gutsy shows I've ever seen. It's not just an exciting part of the Fringe Festival, but of theatre in LA. Christopher Moncayo-Torres and his dad, Abel, deconstruct all ways that storytelling can connect us, break us, and bring us back together is incredible, a feat of artistic strength only the most daring pieces are willing to take. It goes there, in real time, and the results are nothing short of amazing. Truly nothing like it in any festival or on any stage. It's one of the best solo shows I've ever had the pleasure to watch....

THIS IS A MUST SEE SHOW!!!
Absolutely incredible . This show had it all - hilarious moments, heart wrenching moments, anxiety-provoking moments, and even a few geopolitical fun facts. It explores nuanced questions of what it means to really know someone and really love someone. Having his dad performing with him was a brilliant way to add another dimension to this show. Watching this on Father's Day was a really special experience.

This show cracked my heart wide open. Christopher Moncayo-Torres is a gifted storyteller, seamlessly weaving together humor, heart, and vulnerability. It's an honor to watch Chris share the stage with his father while seeking clarity within seeming chaos. There's a universality here that echoes true. I felt like I could sit by the fireside and listen to Chris tell stories all day long. ...

The first thought after the entire show was “wow..” in the most best way possible. I felt so many emotions during the entire show!! It amazes me how much I had related with Christopher and the kind of relationship he had with his father. Just.. wow. I am amazed and inspired. ...

This show. Where do I even begin. Let’s start here: I left the theatre sobbing with a fractured, but full heart, begging the theatre universe to let this story be shared with as many people as possible. Christopher and his storytelling are unmatched- I was engaged the whole time, in fact, engaged feels like an understatement. I was invested, I was hyper focused, and I was connected to the show, Christopher, his father, and my own emotions during this masterful theatrical experience. Please go see and support this show if you know what’s good for ya; it is exactly what theatre strives to be....

A series of vignettes told with and about his father, Christopher’s show is the epitome of beautiful storytelling. To be so vulnerable on stage is immensely brave and I cannot emphasize how absolutely moving it is to watch a father-son relationship move and grow onstage in real time. As a Mexican-American, the unapologetic use of Spanish made me feel seen for one of the first times ever in a piece of media. There is no one universal story, but this story universally needs to be told. ...

On Sunday, June 9th, I attended the premiere of Christopher Moncayo-Torres’ show, “Habla y te Salvas: Stories of a No Sabo Kid & His Guayaco Dad,” which was one of ten Scholarship Recipients for the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival.
As a storyteller myself, and increasingly solo-show curious, I have been attending an abundance of solo performances lately, and without a doubt, Christopher’s production stands out as unique.
First of all, it’s not just a solo-show.
Christopher labels this a “solo-ish show” because his father is on stage with him for the majority of the performance, which adds a powerful layer to both the content and the emotional landscape—in the form of a living breathing man in the midst of processing an intense histor...
