What I liked
Everything. O’Meara’s text is so funny, I mean really funny and her performance equals the text. She blends all the tools at her disposal to tell the story. The film excerpts blend perfectly with the world that she has created for us on the stage. Her dance on the Venice boardwalk and Santa Monica Pier with different pieces of her inanimate lover, torso and arms, arms, arm, is sublime. In the land of one billion one person shows this is in the top 5 of the fringe to be sure.
What I didn't like
I just hope enough people see it.
My overall impression
This show is a must see. She has one more show on the 25th at 11:00.a.m. You should go! This is another winner of a show. Ms. O’Meara does not disappoint as we follow her through her mundane life of working in a sex phone call center where, “full ejaculation is guaranteed or your money back.” She doesn’t feel any connection to anyone in her life and it looks like she’s about to throw herself into the ocean, she’s being devoured by maggots anyway, when she spies a mannequin who is obviously trying to drown himself. She rescues the mannequin and falls in love with the inanimate object. It’s ridiculous and it’s perfect. The silent movie filmic aspects all propel this hilarious story forward. The silent movie placards delivering unanticipated punchlines and O’Meara’s performance doesn’t disappoint on any level from her wistful dance with the mannequin on Venice’s boardwalk and the Santa Monica pier to her straight out clowning as she rolls down the dune overlooking the pacific in despair. I loved this show – it’s a great way to start the day – you should go.
