Who needs genres or tones when you've got Roost?! From the opening moment, I was riveted. The character work was on point. KT and Audrey made the text sing. And their chemistry was simply magnetic, synchronized from start to finish. You don't quite know where the play is going and then you really get thrown for a loop as the world unfolds on itself. From the opening moments, this show was laugh-out-loud funny while cutting to the truth of the underrepresented and misrepresented. I didn't realize how invested I was in Mermaid until the final moment when the impact of the show hit me all at once. It was riveting! I didn't want it to end and yet I feel as though it hasn't ended... Mermaid has stayed with me for days, existing in the space between the real and the mythical. How much of our lives is constructed by designs and machinations beyond our control? It's an engaging, humorous, and suspenseful tale filled with wonder, heart and humanity.
