(no static at all)

Alex has taken something special to him and made us special to us. He has given the fringe the gift in NO STATIC AT ALL. I loved every second of it. I came out loving HIM, his depreciation of self, his wind-ups to u expected outcomes. Revelation after revelation, he is in the moment completely and allows us to follow each step of his thoughts in this loving/living history. Thank you, Alex. I hope Josh calls soon - he has a true brother in you.... full review

Shakespeare's "King Phycus"

If you need your Shakespeare fix at the 2013 HFF, here it is! HILARIOUS TO THE POINT OF RUPTURE OR RAPTURE. THIS SHOW IS AN ACE. The cast are dynamic in that they are both classically trained and uninhibited comedic maniacs. I came early and wasn't sure I had the energy after such a late night but they were better than a cup of coffee. Every singe person was spot on in this inventive mash-up of the Bard's most memorable works. There is such irreverence and reverence at the same time for Sha... full review

The Miss Julie Dream Project

A fun deconstruction. I admit it is often confusing, but then I haven't read A Dream Play since college. The "project" centers mostly around Miss Julie her struggle, or more specifically the-actor-playing-her's struggle to find an interpretation of Miss Julie that she can apply to herself - or unlock Julie's secrets for a successful show. Along the way she the Dream Play is used to break into the many levels of interpreting Julie's story in a Pirendello-character-in-search-of-an-author quest, ... full review

Four Clowns presents Me Rich You Learn

FOUR CLOWNS DO IT AGAIN!!! THERE IS JUST SO MUCH TO LOVE IN THIS SHOW. Not only does Me Rich You Learn have the brilliant physical comedy that we've come to expect from Four Clowns but there is even dialogue this time around - and I assure you this only enhances the theatrical experience!! This story, about a tax evader forced into a community service repentance for his sins to the IRS, is less about the mindnumbing fine points of tax law then it is about the utter foolishness that unfolds bet... full review

Double Bind

I am so pleased to be providing the first review for folks considering seeing Double Bind. Should you get a ticket? Yes!!!! GO GO GO. There at least 3 reasons. 1) the writing is inspired. Blake Abramovitz is a literary alchemist who really unrolls a red carpet of poetry, to create a world layered on top of our own - a world of Kerouacian fantasy of a bohemian liberation which, in this discourse between old friends is ultimately exposed to be either a lie or the truth. The conversation see... full review

Mud by Maria Irene Fornes

First off, I want to say that I had to leave before the end which had absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the work, I had just not scheduled my shows correctly. Apologies to the cast!! HOWEVER, I can at least say that it was somewhat painful for me to care myself away from the show, and it was so good that I've made plans to go back and watch the whole thing again. This is just an intimate nuanced production that really creates a world so simply and beautifully. It's an established pla... full review

"Life in the Middle Ages"

Alright. This was my first Hollywood fringe show and I am very glad for that. The last minute extra show I attended was added to the calendar so that Steven might trick the infamous sophomore curse into striking a less attended performance and BEHOLD! STEVE OCHS DESTROYS THE SOPHOMORE CURSE!! He did a great job breaking down the stages of grief for one's own midlife morality epiphany. He was fast, witty friendly, personal and fearless when it came to breaking down his subject which was prima... full review

I Heart Hamas: And Other Things I'm Afraid to Tell You

What a journey! It starts off very hilarious and then delves deeper. Jennifer really brought so much of herself to this piece - at times she's empowered, other times she's self-depreciating, but always speaking her mind and on the verge of discovering new things. By the time it's over you will "Heart" Jen. Rock on, girl, bay area to beyond... ... full review
