#Hashtag

Hashtag is a little complex in its structure, but simple in its message: no matter how many communication devices we have, it's no substitute for real, human interaction. In the age of the 8G whatever iPhone, their message is vital. At no point does Hashtag get preachy. It's fun or at least funny throughout, even when things start to darken for our hero, leading to a wonderfully bittersweet ending. The performances here were great, the casting perfect. Apparently the actors were heavily in... full review

Sunny Afternoon

I really, really enjoyed SUNNY AFTERNOON. There are some great scenes with sharp, natural dialogue. The lighting and sound design are pretty close to brilliant, and the way they use the space is phenomenal. It's rare in Fringe to see a show that so completely embraces their space and it's really nice to see. The performances in this show are a real treat. With such a large cast, there wasn't a single weak link. Everyone was on point. The stand outs here are Darrett Sanders (brilliant!), Dieter... full review

Fathers at a Game

I didn't know what to expect when I walked into "Fathers". After 10 minutes I still wasn't sure what I had gotten into. But then there came a turn. Something that suddenly and wonderfully turned the table. I don't want to say too much and spoil it, but please go see this show. You won't regret it.... full review

... Awkward Pauses

As anyone who enjoys it knows, dark comedy is hard. Really hard. That's why it's so nice to see a show like Awkward Pauses. They get it, and they pull it off quite well. In fact, over the breezy 45 minutes (or so) running time of these three one acts, I had a great time. The reason I clicked "liked it" is only because I found the content selection to be a little uneven. Maybe it's because the first two were so sharp, smart, and funny that the bar was just too high, but the third and final piec... full review

[title of show]

I arrived late to this show. However, my point is not that I am "that guy", but rather that there were no seats left and I had to stand. And stand I did. Immediately pulled in by this show, I had absolutely no problem standing there while being incredibly entertained. So what's so good about it? Obviously the show itself is well written, but TU knocked it out of the park. The performances were were excellent: perfect comedic timing, exhaustive commitment to their roles, and beautiful voices. Philosophy in the Boudoir

While I was watching this I just wished I was watching "Dangerous Liaisons". Or even "The Libertine". In these works we were treated to a world that was at once erotic, exciting, thoughtful, and disturbing. In PHILOSOPHY, we are treated to... I'm not sure what. I don't know who these people are. Things happen, certainly. Mostly to them. We don't so much as witness the emotional/intellectual transformation of the young virgin so much as we watch her immediately begin to fondle and hit people. MORE BIGGER MASSES

If you go see More Bigger Masses you will have fun. You'll laugh quite a bit, and you'll be treated to (and involved in) some moments of audience interaction that doesn't feel forced or contrived. Between the direction, the fairly incredible performance by Gabe Mckinney, and the great costume/set design, there's a lot of talent on stage. There's a real point here about American life, but it's never quite hit straight on. I left not completely knowing who Guy was and what his struggles with his co... full review
