KEEPING UP WITH THE PROZOROVS

In short: Very witty and charming play that shows us the grass may not always be greener on the other side. This is a smartly written play that fuses Checkov's Three Sisters with the modern mythology of the Kardashians (and our society's obsession with appearances and notoriety). Lucy Gillespie's writing is sharp and hilarious throughout, which is adroitly directed by Katie Lindsay. The entire cast has spot on comedic timing and fully commit to their characters. Especially engrossing is Fabia... full review

Ladies in Waiting: The Judgement of Henry VIII

ashley steed · June 26, 2017 certified reviewer
For a king determined to have a male heir, it’s ironic that Henry VIII is primarily known for his six wives. His legacy did not live on with his only son, Edward II, but with Elizabeth I - and with her not providing an heir that’s also where the Tudor reign ends. The play is set in purgatory (or something like it as Protestants don’t believe in purgatory), Henry (James Cougar Canfield) must face each of his wives who have defined his reign. Sweet Dreams: The Prologue

Shine On Collective debuted at Fringe last year with their immersive piece The Truth. This year they’ve created a stand alone “Prologue” to what will be a larger piece later this year. The premise of this piece pulls from fairy tales (á la damsels in distress) and twists them into a dark, enigmatic world for adults. The piece begins in the cab of a U-haul van where you meet Phillip (Alexander Echols) who's desperately staring at a well-worn map. He’s searching for the girl of his dreams, Ro... full review

Quantum Entanglement

In layman terms, quantum entanglement is the phenomenon that two particles can remain intimately linked to where actions performed on one affect the other, even when separated by great distances (even light-years away). Einstein dismissed the phenomenon as “spooky action at a distance” but there has since been huge discoveries in quantum physics. One possibility in the future is building a quantum internet - a communications system that would be faster than the speed of light. This theory is at t... full review

Titus Sharkdronicus

Sharknado 2: The Second One opens with sharks flying through the air at a plane, with one sinister shark consciously going after Tara Reid and biting off her hand which is gripping a gun. “He just had this look in his eyes,” she says. At the end (spoilers) former Chippendale Ian Ziering see’s that same shark, cuts it open and finds Tara Reid’s severed hand, still gripping the gun and uses it to kill another sinister shark. The reason this franchise has become a cult hit is because of its seriousn... full review
