MIL GRUS

You'd be hard-pressed to find this kind of stupidity anywhere else. And I mean that in the best way. Mil Grus is one part performance art, two parts improv comedy, and five parts avant-garde nonesense. And I loved every single one of those parts! The entire bouffon ensemble are as irresistibly funny as they are repulsive. They have the audience in the palm of their hand the whole time. Like a fickle feline, they push us away and pull us back in on a whim. A well devised show, excellently performe... full review

Orangutan

One-person shows are a staple of the Fringe Festival, and this one definitely stands out. Kristina Mueller is gripping as Mama Mary, all-at-once hilarious, heart-wrenching, and powerful. And hats off to Troy Deutsch for creating a Trump piece that isn't anchored by hacky pandering (not an easy feat these days). Orangutan has something to say, and says it in a clever and unexpected way. ... full review

Come Back!

Great fun! I saw their preview and had a blast. Tony Foster's writing is incredibly snappy, delivering consistent laughs throughout. His writing is also the perfect springboard for headliners Demetris Hartman and Amir Levi. Both showcase huge talent and have the audience in the palm of their hand the whole time. No absence of comedic and musical ability there! And the show's fantastically fun closing number is the perfect conclusion to this romp of a redemption story. This show is a must-see for ... full review

The Last Croissant

I'll start by saying that this show is unequivocally a must-see! It is easily one of the best Fringe shows I've ever seen, and I would go as far as to say that it ranks highly among the best pieces of theatre I've seen period. Veronica Tijoe's story is engaging and playful with just the right amount of magical realism. The staging is truly extraordinary and miles beyond what one would expect from a Fringe show. Lex Gernon has created a gorgeous playground for the performers (though I shutter at ... full review

WHITE HOT

White Hot is one of those rare jewels that artists flock to Fringe to find. This is the product of young, passionate artists collaborating, driven solely by a burning desire to say something. It’s the kind of daring work that should be strived for by all theatre artists and is most definitely a must-see at this year’s Festival. Every element of this production was simple, yet dynamic. The set and costumes, a beautiful collage of blacks, whites and pinks, created a deceptively pleasant atmosphere.... full review

Four Clowns presents Me Rich You Learn

I saw Four Clowns’ “That Beautiful Laugh” at last year’s Fringe and was an instant fan of the company. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into “Me Rich You Learn” (mostly due to the noticeable absence of the iconic red nose). Is it a clown show or something else entirely? What I got, however, was the pleasantest of surprises: a clown show for grown-ups! Zachary Steele and Adam Carpenter have created, without a doubt, one of the most outrageously brilliant comedies I’ve seen in recent years... full review

Live Theatre Blog: Milk From Stone

LIVE THEATRE BLOG is a great show. I've come to expect this from Coeurage Theatre productions. What I wasn't expecting, however, was to take part in a experience that was so unique and challenging to the way I view theatre as a medium. MILK FROM STONE is a captivating script, and Devon Simonson delivers a commanding performance that is both bitingly funny and incredibly heartfelt. What really sold the project for me though was the scope of it. Knowing that my experience was being shared with comp... full review
