Sally Gordon

My name is Sally Gordon. Daniel Ruiz told me about the event and suggested that I contact you.

Since 1984 I have been the founding director of a community-based theatre company called El Teatro de la Realidad Theatre of Reality). We perform pays based on the lives of the participants, themes of interest to the community such as immigration, gang warfare, domestic violence and incest. We also present adaptations of myths and folk tales from around the world.
We mostly perform at the Plaza Olvera during the Dia de los Muertos and Virgen Guadalupe festivals and have performed for four consecutive years with the N. E. Peace Festival.

We participated twice in a community-based theatre festival in Holland in 2001 and 2008 and a book was written about our work in 2000 called Community Theatre: Global Persepectives by Eugene van Erven publsihed by Routledge.

I just learned about the Hollywood Fringe Festival (I live in Hollywood) and wonder if we might be able to be a part of the event even though it is relatively late in the game.

We ave a play we performed before a group of families with HIV called “La Puerta Abierta” or The Open Door originated by one of our actors, Ana Rosa Garcia. We usually perform in Spanish for Latino audiences, but sometimes the pays are bilingual.

If you would be interested in the Teatro de la Realidad, I can be reached at: 323-255-8267.

We would love to perform in a theatre and if there is the possibility of participating in this event, we would love to be a part of it.
