StandUpera

Erin bares her soul and life struggles in a witty, light-hearted manner. I think it takes a lot of courage to expose oneself like that but Erin did it with such grace and charisma. Unlike the one reviewer who thought her voice was overpowering, I couldn't get enough of it. Actually, that was my only disappointment - that she didn't sing enough. Looking forward to more performances out of her. Most definitely.... full review

Fish Out Of Whiskey:A Lawyer Who Just Wants You Off His Case

Often times we see actors play lawyers on film and television. Here, we got a chance to see a lawyer BE an actor. Wasn't really sure what I was expecting, maybe some oratorical debate of some sort, or at the very least something with a lot of lawyer jargon that would be hard to follow. But Wade delivered an endearing, humorous, life story that was so engaging and entertaining that if I didn't laugh out loud during some of it, I was smiling the entire time. Great credit to his wife for a well wri... full review

Anna, In the Darkness

In the wake of the teen-age pool party incident in Texas, nothing could be more relevant than Anna, In The Darkness. Rebecca Lincoln’s stellar performance helped lend an emphatic, up close and personal ear into the mind of a tortured soul. On one side, it’s absolutely heinous to see how such awful acts of humanity are so blindly justified by misplaced ideals of status quo or distorted religious convictions. On the other side, it was a pure delight to see, feel and taste the torment through the... full review

Nurses and Hypochondriacs

Who would have thought nurses could be so funny??? When you bring in some of the top stand-ups who also happen to be nurses then you're in for a fun night. Even some of the storytellers who were not nurses had hilarious hospital & dating experiences. It was a lot of fun.... full review

The Video Games

The idea behind The Video Games was really brilliant and the execution of it, using the audience interaction to vote on the outcome, created a great atmosphere of fun and creativity. The four hosts were excellent, especially Amber Lawson, in their animated performance and they really livened the stage. The background pianist creating the ambient music was great but I felt the constant playing of it competed with a lot of the dialogue and I couldn't hear some of the punch lines. As a fight ch... full review

The Count of Monte Cristo: The Musical

As a fellow Fringer also mounting a Dumas show, I wanted to see how their idea of what the book meant to them was interpreted for the stage. One of the things writer, director, and producer Kelly d'Angelo disclaims is that this is a workshop performance, that a full hour was cut from the actual full length production and because of that there were going to be gaps. For me, that was a great way to break the ice. I was able to sit back and simply enjoy the work. And enjoy I did. Kelly did a rem... full review

La La La Strada

If you are not familiar with Federico Fellini's work, I would strongly suggest seeing "La Strada" (available on Hulu) before seeing this. This way, you will appreciate the artistry behind this work presented by Proboscis Theater. It's easy enough to find but here is the wikipedia link to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Strada. Because I was not familiar with the work, I had no point of reference. Regardless, I thought it was a wonderful mixture of circus, puppetry, and live accompaniment re... full review
