I Died...I Came Back...Whatever.

'Fearless imp' is certainly Cyanne. This is a kind of 'dream-play' steeped in autobiography that left me with many questions about what it is to die and to come back, and certainly not 'whatever'. My favorite moment is when she watches her wedding video and realizes she'll marry at 'hottie' if she comes back to life! Certainly Cyanne and husband-producer Matthew make an indomitable team, and have been great presences during this Fringe. ... full review

Murder Blood Bear Story

This piece defies categorisation! Katelyn herself described it as a 'dramedy' - but it's part fantasy, part dream-play, part fairytale, part comedy, part myth, part cabaret. She glides easily from genre to genre, as much as from character to character. She sings, she dances, she breaks the 4th wall...the 5th wall...the 6th wall...and she whirls us into contemplation of what it means to be happy. It's a smorgesbord of theatrical experience! What a wonderful piece of story telling! Ann Starbuck's powerful and evocative narrative is told with blissful simplicity and honesty - gliding effortlessly from character to character, and encapsulating their atmosphere and emotions strikingly. The set is elegant. The balance between comedy and pathos is very tasteful. And the insights into such a potent time in contemporary history are profound and affecting. A lovely piece of work. Good luck at the NY Fringe! ... full review

The Women of The Hat...a duet for one

Melissa is beguiling. This is a dreamlike piece in many ways - in its use of costume, props, music, set and movement. Woven with (what I took to be) autobiography, there is also an 'other worldly' quality that quietly transports you. I came away pleasantly wistful...Playing this last week in the Festival, go and be allured by the music, movement and the magic of Melissa.... full review

U and Me and My Best Friend P

Abby Schachner is a phenomenon. Not only is she a whirlwind presence who owns the stage and holds the audience in raptures, she is also a wonderful poet. The blend of fairytale and dark psyche is intoxicating and funny. Her own child-like quality is divine, and yet at the same time she is incredibly sexy on stage. What a strange and beguiling combination. It's magical, like the Wicked Stepmother and Gretel and the Good Fairy all rolled into one. We laughed and laughed, then were touched and provo... full review

...or Dare - wherein lies the truth?

What an unexpected treat! I didn't really know what to expect and found myself lured in by the dark atmosphere of both pieces. Echoes of Pinter, and touches of Albee's ZOO STORY, yet at the same time very unique voices. I loved that edginess of not knowing where each piece will take us and will everyone be safe? Thoughtful writing, very committed performances and a deliciously dynamic tension. Bravo!... full review

What a wonderful piece! There is a generosity in Laura Carson's performance which is infectious, transporting and entrancing. Her ability to walk the tightrope of comedy and poignancy is masterful. Beautifully written, exquisitely performed, and compelling honesty in form and content. A genuine, genuine MUST SEE!!!!... full review

The Changing Role of the Theater Critic in the 21st Century

This was a truly fascinating and thought-provoking discussion. Thoroughly enjoyable, and great to see a panel of such passionate, intelligent presenters. To be honest, I didn't know there was such a controversy about the BLI, so it was eye-opening in all sorts of ways. It's just great that the Fringe has these kinds of discursive events in among the performances.... full review

Shakespeare's Last Night Out (or What? YOU, Will??)

This was a delight, full of un-expectations. This really was WILL - THE MUSICAL with such lyrical, evocative and funny songs delivered superlatively by performer, composer, researcher Michael Shaw Fisher. And the wonderful music-scape by Alistair Cooper and Allison Sulock were equally entrancing. The show is perfectly set in the Three Clubs venue and Michael's facility with the audience was captivating and playful. What a gem of a piece! Surely this is the kernel of a full blown musical about the... full review

This is a sincere and committed piece of new writing. Christina Ogunade begins the performance by alerting us to the fact that this is work-in-progress to discover which characters may be taken into the next iteration. I wholly applaud the journey that she is on with the piece. The performances by all the actors are very committed and honest, and I encourage audiences to support the process here, enabling Christina to evolve the piece to its next iteration. The pleasure of this Fringe is that wor... full review
