What makes the play sing is its elasticity—it’s not just a showcase for Chekhov obsessives, but a theatrical duet that demands emotional and physical range. At the Broadwater Studio under Richard Kenyon‘s thoughtful direction, the piece crackles with intimacy and theatrical danger, with James Carter Montgomery and Natalie Valentine constantly shifting tone, tactic, and temperature....

In six individual vignettes that straddle the line between farce and reality, Schwartz examines not just the world of PR, but how our media-saturated world assumes one guilty until proven innocent, and how disparate beliefs fail to reach compromise (my favorite vignette was an interview by Kelly with the Dalai Lama, hysterically portrayed by an unnamed actress). Bohdi believes that sticking out one’s tongue is a sign of respect or agreement and was often used as a greeting in traditional Tibetan ...

I found it to be a very affecting and intimate one-man show, a surprisingly revelatory and introspective dance piece about this young man's history of panic disorder....

Yes, this is a superficial "And then I..." retelling of Anthony Newley's life, but Jon Peterson's one-man outing at the Hollywood Fringe Festival is fun, escapist fare. In addition, audiences unfamiliar with the composer, actor, and one-time husband of Joan Collins should be flabbergasted by the gorgeous standards Newley left us (especially the ones he wrote with Leslie Bricusse). Peterson manages to evoke Newley's iconic vibrato and gesticulations without ever being clownish or pastiche. Written...

The Trial of Dali

The idea to have a jilted ex-lover of Dali take him to court for his surrealist attempts at modern art is right out of Theatre of the Absurd. While the script is still in development and needs to be completely rethought, the director was incapable of directing this farce, for it lacked the elements necessary to make farce work -- believability and sight gags were nowhere to be seen, and it seems like actors (some of whom are very capable) are floundering to figure out what to do. Two of the actor...

I have to agree with Jason Rohrer's review at Stage and Cinema on this one (http://www.stageandcinema.com/2014/06/13/million-dollar-hair-lost-moon/). I am a HUGE fan of Lost Moon Radio, trumpeting about the inventive troupe for years. For “Million Dollar Hair,” the actors, the characterizations, the band, the lighting, the production: all were amazing. And no doubt there were some guffaw-inducing moments. But I found myself itching to get out of the theater. Why? The songs – the main element of t...

While I admit some of the voices are poor AND poorly projected, there are sterling performances from the supporting cast. Musical Theater aficionados better avoid this one, but those who have never seen it before will get the musical's charms and wistfulness, even if they won't hear the greatest renditions of the songs (and the harp is an extra added bonus)....
