Andrew Hale

Happy Dagger Theatre was established in 2005 by actor/writer/director Andrew Hale and actor/producer Renee McIntosh to create live performance and theatre works that reflect international influences and the belief that entertaining is the least that theatre should be. Our work ethic is collaborative and energetic with an emphasis on the human and magical rather than on tricks and technology.

We believe that connection with our audience is the most important aspect of any theatrical production and as such it is what we continuously strive for, even before ‘story’ or ‘character’. We believe that performance should never be regurgitated rehearsal, rather the moment by moment discovery of the wonder of connection.Theatre is the ‘art of the present moment’ and rehearsal is a map to ‘now’.

Happy Dagger Theatre aims to develop exciting new physical theatre work that is distinctive and accessible. A quintessentially Australian company that pushes the bounds of accepted Australian theatrical practice, the company connects emotionally with its audience through emphasizing the human over the digital and the physical over the cerebral.
