Marivel Magsaysay is an actor, director, and writer based in Los Angeles, California. A first generation Filipino-American, she finds herself most drawn to character stories that deal with identity and crossing barriers.
A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Marivel has worked on numerous theatrical productions. She starred as Hermia in an all queer reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream produced by Open Wings Theatre. They also have worked extensively with Colleen Hammond Whitmore Productions in Macbeth, A Winter’s Tale, and Much Ado About Nothing.
On the screen, she has worked on several short films including starring in Acceptance (2022), dir. Maile Ancheta, which tells the story of a young Filipino actress who struggles to see eye to eye with her immigrant mother. Additionally Marivel will star in the upcoming short film, Mother’s Day, dir. Madina Zhalgas, which examines the world of immigrant surrogates making a living in America. They’ve also had the privilege of working on a co-star role for an original tv show on BET+ called Angel (2023).
