Gene Hwang (黄于军) is the producer and creative director of Kung Fu Cowgirl: The Musical and co-producer of the solo stage play Light. A Molecular & Cell Biology graduate and Student Teacher Poet from UC Berkeley, he was previously a rapper signed by a NYC record label before trading the mic for the laboratory—and later, a turntable as DJ So Fresh N So Gene. Since 2010, he has been one of China’s most experienced study abroad counselors, helping students gain admission to Ivy League and other top global universities. Gene co-founded Kung Fu Cowgirl LLC with his wife, Snow, to tell engaging stories—as seen in their first illustrated book, Impossible Light—and to create original shows that bridge cultures with emotional resonance and theatrical flair.
