Brandon Rainey

Writer & Director Brandon Rainey has been writing & directing plays for the last 12 years and recently began working on development for television as well as Screenwriting. He started teaching in 2007 when he accepted the position at Washington Preparatory High School serving as one of the youngest teachers in the district. He then left to serve as Artistic Director of ICEF Public Schools supervising 15 schools theater and writing classes while directing a dozen plays and leading his students to win first place five consecutive years in a city-wide Theaterfest with “A Raisin in the Sun”, “Fences”, “Dreamgirls” and “Lion King.” He currently works at the Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center, is the Executive Director of CBG Arts and serves as the Creative Arts Director at Antioch Church of Long Beach. January 2012 he had the opportunity to write and direct the opening act for the Michael Jackson Tribute that took place in front of the Kodak Theater sharing the stage with greats such as Quincy Jones, Smokie Robinson & the Jackson family. His impact on the arts and the community led him to receive Morehouse College’s Spike Lee Award and the JP Morgan CHASE Bank Center Theater Group Fellowship Award which gave him the opportunity to study under great Broadway directors in New York and take playwriting courses with Music Theater International. In 2012 his original play, “Flashing Lights” took the city by storm selling over 3,000 tickets during the first weekend of the workshop run. Early 2013 he directed his original production “The Dating Game” at the Wilshire Ebell. Outside of theater he also worked in development on a new television show attached to Ryan Seacress Company. At a young age he has led several touring groups and his work has been in theaters, churches, high schools, and colleges across the nation.
