Klingon Tamburlaine

alex elliott-funk · June 23, 2019 certified reviewer
School of Night continues to boldly go where no other theatre company dares to go. This epic, wildly imaginative ride is their most ambitious project yet. Combining the sweeping verse of Marlowe's conquering Tamburlaine with the bombastic world of the Klingons is an inspired and deeply entertaining achievement. The hardest working cast in Fringe pulls off wordy text, bat'leth combat, starship fights, endless quick changes, and performances that keep the play entertaining and jaw-dropping from... full review

Orangutan

One of the best one-person shows I have ever seen. An remarkably sharp and surreal text is performed to hilarious, disturbing, and gripping perfection by Kristina Mueller, a major new talent on the Fringe scene. An absurdist, almost Lynchian take on the woman behind the disgusting failure that is our current president. Comments on our modern conundrum without being political and holds a distorted but revealing mirror up to the us all. Above all, it succeeds at being an extremely unique and en... full review

Cleaner Than Blood

Strong performances, excellent use of sound and light, and superbly crafted script make for a highly enjoyable and gripping thriller. Jen Silverman is an extremely talented up-and-coming playwright and this piece demostrates exactly why. The play immediately creates intrigue and questions, and maintains that tension and mystery as each character's secrets are revealed and the stakes steadily increased. The play kept me engaged and curious throughout and delivered a rewarding payoff. Highly re... full review

NOW LEASING

Now Leasing succeeds and entertains at so many levels, parlaying the many faceted skills of writer/performer Lea McGowan into a inspiring, passionate story of one artist's journey towards her dreams. Its thoroughly refreshing to see so much emotion and narrative expressed through dance and physicality when so much theatre today is overly wordy and ultimately undistinguished. Lea is truly mesmerizing as she moves from one episode to the next, even making costume changes into expressive moments, ... full review

The Time Machine Musical

alex elliott-funk · June 22, 2013 uncertified reviewer
This abridged production of the fun, new musical "The Time Machine" is full of energy, catchy songs, and creative staging. I fed off the energy and commitment of the strong cast, and their sense of fun was contagious. While the show certainly had the rough edges of a workshop presentation, the music carried the night and the simplistic but resourceful staging helped make it a very enjoyable piece.... full review

"The Lover" by Harold Pinter

alex elliott-funk · June 22, 2013 uncertified reviewer
An extremely enojyable, funny, and intelligent show. Pinter is one of the most celebrated playwrights in history, and for good reason, but his work takes real skill and subtlety to pull off well, and this production, founded on some really fantastic performances by JB and Lizzie, really shines. Don't miss this absolute gift of a piece.... full review
