Dana and Justin are such a dynamic pair as actors and creative partners. Dana’s writing was sharp, grounded, well-paced, and very funny. The direction seamlessly moved from dialogue scenes to stand up comedy scenes and immersed the audience in the plot. Mimi Collins wrote and performed a phenomenal show. I was with Alix every single step of the journey. I understood why she stayed with her husband and deeply empathized with her optimism that he could change, which made it all the more devastating after each betrayal. I appreciated each time Alix, a badass modern woman, implied that if she could just satisfy her husband, then he wouldn't HAVE to cheat as if she was taking subconscious responsibility for his fidelity. I felt like I was in a Sabrina Carpenter music video in the best way. It was campy, ridiculous, random, fun, sexy, and an overall blast. I especially loved Ben and Bex. Drew Petriello knows how to write a comedy!! One moment you're wrapped up in the genuine stakes of the election and the next, a character says something idiotic and reminds you where the show actually takes place. This writing cleverly poked fun at corruption in politics without feeling bleak or heavy-handed. Thomas Hollow came off as a naive, arrogant, yet likable presidential hopeful, which is quite hard to pull off! Reid Emmons was a comedic superstar in this play. Jukebox musicals can be hard to pull off - they're inherently ridiculous - but Pam embraced the wacky and created a wildly entertaining, and cathartically feminist piece of Fringe excellence. And boy does this team know how to PERFORM. Emily Clark delivered intensity in her acting and excellence in her vocal performance. "In the Beginning" expertly dives into all the confusing contradictions and inequities of the genesis story without villainizing religion or God as a character. Adam and God start out as almost antagonistic caricatures of themselves but we slowly grow to understand and appreciate them as complex, flawed individuals. This musical is pure joy and whimsy. It was like if Spelling Bee and Seussical had a baby. It was incredibly tight, well-paced, and polished with charming lyrics, beautiful songs, and a lovely message. Molly Sharpe is a FEARLESS comedian. Her show is interactive, strange, intimate, gory, and graphic and I loved every weird second of it. I was in the audience hoping that I'd get picked to do something ridiculous with her onstage. I did and it was a BLAST. Hailey Hudson was stunning as the lead in this complex, emotional play. Her anger, embarrassment, and confusion was remarkably believable as she faced trauma from her teen years. I enjoyed how I Hate How You Dress revealed itself to you slowly with smart writing and unexpected twists. There is a satisfying balance of comedic moments with the two mentor angels and more serious moments of anger and eventual forgiveness.
