THE CONDUCT OF LIFE

Absolutely riveting depiction of brutality, dehumanization and what happens when we stop being able to truly love. A quality production from top to bottom. Doesn't pull any punches, not should they. This is powerful stuff, and you should try to see it if this worthy production extends. ... full review

God of Abraham

This show is hilarious, moving, thought-provoking and achingly human. Though comprised of various theatrical moments, using seemingly every aspect of the stage, this show manages to transcend any kind of "sketch" label, slyly getting at things most of us would prefer not to look at, including why sacrifice can be meaningless, why there may be a vengeful God, and how to make sense of the spiritual (or lack thereof) in everyday life. And puppets! How could you not love a show with beautifully wroug... full review

Sex, Lies, and Social Media

ALAP's Sex, Lies & Social Media is an ambitious mix of five 10-minute plays about the intersection of human life. Mary Steelsmith's Happy and Gay is the strongest piece (and the first of the bunch), about two women decorating a church for its first gay wedding. I would have preferred the plays be presented w... full review

When I hear the words "solo show" I have to admit that some part of me feels like it shrivels up in fear. I associate these types of shows with whininess, self-aggrandizing types looking for agents, attention-seeking above all, doing anything but put on a show for other people. If Ceremony hadn't been about an interesting subject matter, I may not have seen it, which would really have been a mistake on my part. A big mistake. Michael Kass is, first and foremost, a very talented storyteller. Sure... full review

O, Fallen One

I didn't know what to expect when I attended O, Fallen One. I knew the character of Ophelia had often polarized people in the past, who either thought she was a looney victim, or a feminist who refused to compromise her principles, especially when it came to love. What I found from this piece was lyrical, creative theatre combining the wonderful language of Shakespeare with a parallel modern storyline of a woman in much the same place as the original Ophelia character. The actors use movement eff... full review
