Jon Armstrong: Comic Amazement

sara fenton · June 12, 2017 certified reviewer
This fast paced, humorous show features slight of hand, math magic and card manipulation. John Armstrong has a great rapport with the audience and is entertaining start to finish. Saw this show by accident, was at wrong venue, but glad I caught this one instead. #seeitLA Listen to full review here: soundcloud.com/user-340248772/hollywood-fringe-hff17-ep-06-john-armstrong-comic-amazement-quantum-entanglement... full review

Bull

Bull, the second production by Mike Bartlett put up at Rogue Machine Theatre, is directed by Jennifer Pollono and stars Josh Bitton, Kevin Daniels, and Lesley Fera as co-workers waiting for a performance review meeting in which one of them will be fired by their boss (Alex Whittington). Fera and Daniels team up against Bitton with bullying cloaked in humor and fake niceties, escalating quickly to gaslighting. Bully is almost too kind a word – taunt and torture might be more apt. PATRIOT ACT

I really enjoyed Mike Schlitt’s Jesus Ride at Hollywood Fringe 2013. He returns to the stage this Fringe with Patriot Act in what can be described as a participatory seminar/lecture/Ted Talk-style/theatre experiment aimed at [re]igniting discussions around patriotism, civic duty and how to address what we perceive to be what ails America. So much FUN! I loved the clever lyrics and the over the top camp of the show. Donuts for dinner, indeed!... full review

Ceremony

This is one of my favorite shows that I've seen this Fringe. It has so much heart and is so vulnerable and honest. I was laughing out loud and was moved to tears by the great writing, heartfelt acting, simple direction, sparse props, and amazing sounds design. Well done! Go see it!!... full review

Love Actually Isn't

I was riveted by the awkwardly charming couple in "Leftovers". Still thinking about them now, days later. I felt the last play hurried to unload a lot of info at the end to raise the stakes in an already wonderfully painful scenario that didn't need the added boost. Great acting all around. Loved the different voices in the writing. They made for a well rounded exploration of what Love Actually Isn't.... full review

LIFE, AUDITED

Well written, poignant, funny, entertaining and superbly acted. Steve Mize, the all star Moth storyteller, takes us on a journey into fear, denial and truth - laughing all the way. This preview was my first Fringe show and it set the bar high. Can't wait to see it again once the tech is smoothed out. Congrats on being accepted to United Solo Festival!... full review
