Satu Runa
Writer, Performer, Director.
Satu Runa (known professionally as “Satu”) is a playwright, composer-lyricist, and filmmaker in Los Angeles. Her new play, Roar of the Grain, is a recipient of the 2026 Finlandia Foundation National Grant and is currently in development with the Harold Clurman Lab Theater. Her original post-punk musical, King Nigel’s Nervous Breakdown, held its LA premiere at Hollywood Fringe 2024.
From calypso to Finnish folk, music was a ubiquitous presence in her multicultural childhood home in rural Nova Scotia. An alum of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York, Satu has come up in the LA theater scene writing and performing in original plays and musicals. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Alliance of Women Directors, SAG-AFTRA, Actors’ Equity, and Maestra. Her film and theater production company, Karakuva, is based in Los Angeles, CA.
