Luis J. Rodriguez

Luis J. Rodriguez has written 16 books in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, and essays. He’s worked as a script consultant on three TV shows, including FX’s “Snowfall.” His bestselling book “Always Running, La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.” was co-adapted for the stage by Luis J. Rodriguez and Hector Rodriguez, premiering in 2019 at Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles to sold out audiences. The sequel “It Calls You Back: An Odyssey through Love, Addiction, Revolutions & Healing” was a finalist for a 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award. His latest book is ‘From Our Land to Our Land: Essays, Journeys & Imaginings from a Native Xicanx Writer." He’s also founding editor of Tia Chucha Press and co-founder of Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore in the northeast San Fernando Valley. From 2014-2016, Luis served as Los Angeles’ official Poet Laureate.
