The Shape of Me

SHAPE OF ME is a show with a message - 'It's my party and I'll be happy with my body how it is if I want to be!' This show is very enlightening as Amanda Lynn and Vejune, through humor and tears, share their personal stories of pain, pride, and picking up the pieces and how they reached the level of confidence they have now. Though admittedly at times they can, like so many of us who have had issues with accepting ourselves in anyway in our lives, still feel the sting of judgement based on their ... full review

AND... OUT OF THE BLUE — A Miraculous MUSICAL

marylee herrmann · June 13, 2022 certified reviewer
And...Out of the Blue is a delight, especially for any fan of classical musicals. Although delight doesn't seem how'd you'd describe a story of prejudice, AIDS, suicide, and cancer, Eli Hans makes his journey very accessible. Through original songs and dance and an array of characters, many we can all relate to, Hans shares his story of woes, heartbreak, and struggle, never attempting to extract pity from his audience. He loves being a performer and it shows, along with his equally charming partn... full review

Too Big For Her Britches

Lisa Pezik's journey of self-love and mental health awareness through her character Luna is powerful, and at the same time subtle. Though her story is undeniably hers, with her own personal experiences, it is one so many people can relate to in these times where connection is so important.... full review

CAMP GINGER: AN ORIGINAL MUSICAL

marylee herrmann · June 07, 2022 certified reviewer
Camp Ginger is a fun, engaging show. Steve Trzaska's characters have their distinctive personalities and though they all seem different, they eventually (over the course of 'summer camp') gain an understanding of one another. Great character work! Steve's original songs are engaging and support the story beautifully. My favorite was the father singing, because I liked the moment and the song itself, and because it was really special hearing Steve singing in the lower tone. It was almost a tease b... full review

Emergence: First Flight

Life is a journey. Jenna Wadsworth McCarty's vulnerability is beautiful as she brings us not only into her physical studio, but into the processes that she experiences in attempts to find permission to call herself an artist. Through her storytelling and as she develops her art on stage, Jenna not only describes her experience as a storyteller, we get to witness firsthand the agony, the emotional challenges, the little wins, and the big ones that go into creating. Right there in front of the... full review

I Wanna Fall in Love

"Endearing elegance." As I sat in the theater listening to Shelley Cooper share her stories of love and heartbreak through song, using humor and vulnerability, those are the words that came to mind-- endearing elegance. Taking us through her journey of searching for love from a young age, and at times not wanting love (or perhaps trying to convince herself so) it was delightful to relate to some of her experiences, as well as chuckle, and sympathize, at some of her unique tales. At the core of ev... full review

I Have Too Many Feelings

marylee herrmann · August 26, 2021 certified reviewer
Hilarious! I Have Too Many Feelings is ‘out loud laughable’ and entertaining. Having to watch this show at a public coffee shop could not keep me from audibly laughing, making other customers curious I’m sure. In addition to her comedic writing skills, Brittany Vee obviously knows how to comfortably command a stage including not allow something like blaring sirens zipping by the theater detract from the show. A lesser experienced performer this could have led them to be distracted or frustrated, ... full review
