New Awards Strategy

June 22, 2010 by Ben Hill
I mentioned in my last update that we are executing a mid-course correction in how we handle awards. If you are a participant and have stopped by the ye olde Fringe Central, I am sure you have heard me talk your ear off about this. Thanks to Mr. Gedaly Guberek for helping me do the original brainstorm on how to make these more fair and balanced. Here’s how we used to do it…... read more

Announcing Fringe Previews

October 11, 2010 by Ben Hill
In our eternal efforts to make the Fringe better and better, we took careful notes on the success of various programs and initiatives during our first year. One thing is plain: Press drives traffic and attendance. Our most successful week was (surprise, surprise) our final week. Far and away, the fullest houses were on the second weekend. One of the driving factors for this success was... read more

Pacific Conference at Fringe Central Mainstage

June 25, 2012
by Tony Bartolone~ Pacific Conference is a short, funny, fly-on-the-wall viewing. Though it is consistently funny, it feels incomplete overall. Well acted and well written, this show has much potential, but it was almost like watching the first part to a “to be continued…” episode. It is commendably vulgar without feeling forced. The characters seem like real people with wants and ... read more

The Fringe, The Internet, & Democracy

November 21, 2007 by Ben Hill
With a limited number of venues available and demand expected to be high, how do we create a fair, unbiased process to select Fringe projects? This is a very sensitive issue as any “juried” selection process violates the underlying principles of Fringe. After all, the first fringe (1947 in Edinburgh) involved rebel artists setting up camp on the “fring... read more
